Silent Hill f
I could go on forever about how much I despise the story, but the combat alone got it the 2 stars, I want to give it less but it is a functional game. it's a meme to compare things to Dark Souls but they literally added stamina, estus flasks, parrying, excessive hitstop and devil trigger of all things to my Silent Hill game, the very concept is bad enough but it's also janky and frustrating π£πΊ π₯π¦π΄πͺπ¨π―, unforgivable. Konami really saw the two crappy multiplayer Resident Evil games and the Dead Rising "Deluxe" Demaster and said "yep, let Neobards make our big comeback Silent Hill game". the town looks great despite the usual Unreal 5 performance issues, but the other half of the game is in very bland copy and paste dark shrine areas, half the puzzles are braindead and the other half are un-intuitive, plenty of forced combat sections too where you can't progress until you kill everything. I don't think the devs have ever played Silent Hill, and if they have they clearly don't respect it, I'm all for trying new things but this is not innovation and does not respect the series.

Silent Hill 2
in essence it's still Silent Hill 2, the gameplay is pretty good by Bloober standards but why they felt that SH2 needed to play like The Last of Us I'll never understand. the lack of enemy variety hurts it a lot only because they stretched the game out and doubled the run-time, which isn't an issue in the 2001 release. the story and characters definitely have some downgrades and things that Bloober just seemed to not understand and so they have far less impact as a result, please play the original before this, worth trying after that though.

Silent Hill 3
the original gugga game that spawned countless gugga-likes. in all seriousness it's a fantastic game, continues SH1's story in a meaningful way and Heather is a great protagonist. also some of the best PS2 character models you'll ever see, they still look great. too bad they never made another Silent Hill after this one!

Silent Hill 2
perhaps the most spoiled game of all time along with Final Fantasy VII, but regardless of whether you know what happens, you should play it, one of the greatest stories of all time. fantastic music and atmosphere as you'd expect. the remake is pretty good but I don't consider that as having truly experienced Silent Hill 2, either emulate PS2 or go to the Enhanced Edition fan site.

Silent Hill
definitely worth emulating, aged better than you might think. gives you some much needed context for SH3, unlike SH2 which is great as a standalone story. don't let anyone tell you that Harry is a boring or bad protag, chad dad willing to go through hell for his daughter. one of the survival horror greats.

Destiny 2
this game is in such a sorry state and it genuinely breaks my heart, D2 has hit many incredible peaks over its lifecycle (Forsaken, Witch Queen, The Final Shape) but it always quickly sinks back down to an unfulfilling experience. Bungie's greed and incompetence have steadily gotten worse and worse since launch, Datto (large Destiny content creator) started to feel like he couldn't even talk about buffs/nerfs/updates because he was never sure if any of them would actually work once implemented. I'll always have great memories of the better campaigns, raids and exotic/secret missions, because when they actually try, Bungie can produce truly unforgettable moments, but chasing the live service dragon takes its toll eventually. strangely what hurts the most is them changing their real life studio mural quote from "we make games we want to play" to "we create worlds that inspire friendship", because not only has D2 never gotten any significant social features (clans & factions have been rotting since release, making friends isn't something Destiny provides an easy avenue to), it also shows a complete disrespect for their own legacy, the previous quote felt like it was a direct nod to the "30 seconds of fun" that drove Halo to success and adoration, them joining Activision of all companies to escape creative restrictions imposed by Microsoft almost feels like parody now, that's when I knew it was the beginning of the end. back then they felt more like a "family", the ViDocs and machinimas helped with that, now they feel so corporate and sterile, Bungie lost its heart.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen
a slightly flawed but incredibly fun action RPG, good character (and pawn) customisation and plenty of classes to choose from, you can climb monsters and stab them in the face and it never gets old. honestly the side quests suck and you can skip them unless you like to 100%, just make sure you play Dark Arisen because the fast travel restrictions in the original make it borderline unplayable, plus you'll get Bitterblack Isle - an endgame dungeon.

Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie
best movie tie-in game ever made, still very enjoyable. 4 MAGAZINES ON BACKUP.

Alien: Isolation
still amazing to this day, the visuals, the sounds/music and the Xenomorph itself are all perfect. I really hope they don't royally f up the sequel. it's true that it runs a little too long, but the backtracking really establishes Sevastopol as a real lived-in place that you become familiar with. other than some annoying aliasing the game looks incredible and the style of the original film's retro-futurist technology has been expertly re-created. Ryan McCaffrey wouldn't know a good game if it facehugged him.

Resident Evil
the absolute GOAT of survival horror and the best video game remake hands down, whether you hate tank controls and fixed camera angles or not you owe it to yourself to play this masterpiece, it not only still looks gorgeous but adds content and improves upon every aspect of the original 1996 release.

Dead Rising 2
almost as good as its older brother, does a very good job of keeping the spirit of Dead Rising despite not being made by Capcom proper, the crazy combo weapons were a good evolution of the "everything is a weapon" philosophy present in the first game.

Dead Rising
aged very well, one of my very few true 10/10s, don't play the "Deluxe Remaster".

Hogwarts Legacy
sure, it's basically an Ubisoft game, but with fairly fun combat and an incredibly well realised and detailed world (especially Hogwarts itself). Sebastian did nothing wrong.

Baldur's Gate III
a rare modern example of actual player choice, don't like an NPC? pick them up and throw them off a cliff. the main theme (and its variants) are still stuck in my head two and a half years later. Shadowheart best girl.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
takes everything 2077 did both right and wrong and improves on it all. better story, much more adherence to how messed up the source material can be, I hope the sequel takes note and goes even harder, Cyberpunk is supposed to be very "edgy", just not in the cringe way you're probably thinking. definitely a huge step in the right direction.

Cyberpunk 2077
very fun narrative action game, definitely not the deep RPG people expected but I never followed the hype train due to being a blind hater of CDPR at the time. stellar soundtrack, world and atmosphere, outdone only by the Phantom Liberty expansion.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
best story I've experienced in quite a while, deep and memorable characters, quite possibly the soundtrack of the decade as well, doesn't overstay its welcome with an insane grind. pays beautiful tribute to JRPGs of old but manages to express its own unique identity, French misery porn at its finest.
